Cowdray House, 21-22 June 2026

Step back in time to the turbulent period of the 1640’s at Cowdray House this June.

Royalist forces are garrisoned at the ruins of Cowdray park under the command of Francis Browne, 3rd Viscount Montagu. The armie of Parliament have learned of this force in the area and are en route to investigate the reports. Will they manage to catch the Royalists napping or will they be prepared for them and repulse any attempt to sequester the house for Parliament? Come and find out on 20/21 June at Cowdray House.

The English Civil War Society will be showcasing this period of history which has shaped our nation as it is today. Visitors can expect to get hands on with replica artefacts of the period and learn how both military and civilian life treated each individual. You’ll see, hear and feel the weaponry of the period along with learning how civilian trades operated.

Expect to be able to take part in military drill, make your own coinage, have a go at cleaning the clothes of the rich and poor. You can also see food of the period being made in the Tudor kitchen and see the difference between upper and lower class foods.

Which side will you be for, The King or Parliament?
