Dear Ian

Thank you very much for the invitation to the 375th anniversary of the First Battle of Newbury.  I was very pleased to be able to represent the Lord Lieutenant.

I was also delighted to find what an astonishing event you had put on to commemorate the battle.  I was most impressed by the Living History village and by the dedication of those involved in re-creating the lives of both soldiers and villagers of the Civil War period.

Both Dudley and I enjoyed it enormously and were hugely impressed.  I have passed this on to the Lord Lieutenant who was sorry to miss it.
